The Beginning of Great Achievements. Be USRN!
A long time ago, I thought of what it’s like to live and work in the US. When entered college, I chose Nursing as my course, thinking it might be an avenue for me to go abroad. Years had passed, and I finished college and earned a degree in Nursing but I was not able to practice it since there was an oversupply of nurses in the Philippines. It was just hard to find a Nursing job at that time. For a couple more years, I made a family. It gave me an opportunity to migrate to the US. And with that, I thought that maybe one day I can pursue being a nurse in the US.
Now that I am finally in California, the family has become my priority. Working as a nurse is a visible plan for the future, which made me decide to take tiny steps to move forward even with the busy life of being a hands-on mom of two. Recently, I took the NCLEX, sacrificing my time in preparing for the test and balancing family life. But even with the hardships and trials, I guess if something is meant for you, it will happen. I was blessed to overcome the obstacles with my NCLEX journey and I made it.
What it is like living in the US?
Living in the US is quite a dream come true. Yes, it is tough and challenging since there isn’t much of a helping hand in the way of life but opportunities are within reach. Nursing jobs are everywhere here in California. Most hospitals or health facilities are looking to hire registered nurses even to the point of sponsoring nurses from the Philippines. What is great about this is that job offers come left and right. Given the chance of being here already, I would’ve grabbed a job right away but priorities need to be sorted out. I am looking forward to finally working as a Nurse real soon when everything is in place. I’m so glad I took tiny steps and now I’m just a step closer.
Follow your heart, even if it takes you to California. There are so many things to see here from beaches to mountains. It’s a never-ending discovery. Just like in life, you got to find, discover yourself and chase that dream. It is never too late to fulfill a dream and no one is too old to discover a passion. Small opportunities are often the beginning of great achievements. So don’t be afraid to take one step forward because life is a lifetime opportunity to make the right choice.
