NCLEX

NCLEX USA

NCLEX, which stands for National Council Licensure Examination, is a nationwide examination for the licensing of nurses in the United States. In addition, this standardized test is administered by the NCSBN, which consists of the board of nursing in the 50 states, District of Columbia, and four U.S Territories, American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S Virgin Islands.

Nursing hopefuls must have an approved nursing degree and pass either of the two examinations: NCLEX-RN (for Registered Nurse) or NCLEX-PN (for Practical Nurse). This examination will determine if it’s safe for the nurse applicant to practice in their chosen state regulatory board in the United States.

Who Needs to Take the NCLEX?

Anyone who wants to work as a nurse will be required to take and pass the NCLEX exam. As we mentioned earlier, there are two distinct forms of the NCLEX exam based on education level.

Those who hold a Practical Nursing diploma in the hopes of becoming a licensed practical nurse (LPN) must pass the NCLEX-PN. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree holders who wish to become a registered nurse (RN) must pass the NCLEX-RN.

Nclex - Who Needs To Take The Nclex?

What You Need To Know

There are 50 State Boards of Nursing (SBON) and have different sets of requirements, qualifications, processes, registrations, regulations, as well as fees. Therefore, a foreign nurse may qualify for one state while the other candidate may not, depending on their level of education and experience.

Considering the difference between NCLEX RN AND NCLEX PN

The USA NCLEX Application has two types; first is the NCLEX RN – these are the candidates who completed an Associate Degree in Nursing or a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) and second is NCLEX PN they are exclusively for practical and vocational nurses that obtained a diploma in Licensed Vocational Nursing or License in Practical Nursing.

The first thing we need to consider in taking the NCLEX is the state where you will be eligible and what state has the easiest procedure for application, Knowing that each state in the United States has a different set of requirements, qualifications, and processes. The medical professional should have an assessment or pre-qualification process to help identify which state the candidate qualifies or is eligible based on work experience, level of education, and/or objectives before moving to the application process. Nasya provides a free assessment to identify a candidate’s eligibility and consideration.

Next, after the candidate identifies the state, where he/she would like to proceed for application.

He/She needs to undergo the Credential Evaluation Process (CES) , which is the evaluation of the candidate’s documents equivalence in terms of USA education. Take note that not all of the Board of Nursing undergoes to Pre-eligibility or Credential Evaluation Phase. Once this is done Nursing regulatory body in the US determines if the candidate is eligible to apply for the NCLEX exam to a specific State Board of Nursing.

After the Board of nursing declares that the candidate is eligible, they will receive an Authorization to Test or ATT. This will serve as a reminder that candidates are now eligible to take the exam and the validity date varies for each state. Once ATT is Approved you are now allowed to choose your preferred NCLEX examination date within the validity dates indicated, always make sure to be prepared and have reviewed sufficient rationales for your NCLEX RN/PN practice exam or NCLEX RN/PN review materials before scheduling your examination.

According to NCSBN, NCLEX passing rate of foreign nurses was roughly around 46.68% for RNs (First time – Internationally Educated) and 51.49% for PNs (First time – Internationally Educated) last year in 2021, and it doesn’t matter which state or testing center you chose, the NCLEX test is always the same.

After the exam, the candidates may access their unofficial NCLEX results after 48 hours or 2 business days if they process their application with the Quick Result service. However, the NCLEX results in the Quick Results Service do not authorize the candidate as a licensed/registered nurse and only the Board of Nursing body can provide the official NCLEX Results. Also not all Board of Nursing will grant the License immediately after passing NCLEX, in some states you need to submit a license application; this includes mailing in or applying online depending on your Nursing Regulatory requirements.

Doing your application on your own might be an option. Focusing on your review and exam preparation is more important. Here are 5 Hacks to Pass NCLEX Exam! Doing all the checking, assessment, and contacting health authorities might be challenging too.
