What is Nursing Jurisprudence Exam in NCLEX Texas Application?

This test is all about the department of law that comprises all the legal rules and principles affecting the practice of nursing in Texas. It does not only include the study but also the interpretation of all these rules and principles and their application in the regulation of the practice of nursing. And it deals with: All laws, rules, and regulations, Legal principles and doctrines governing and regulating the practice of nursing, and Legal opinions and decisions of the competent authority in cases involving nursing practice.

Texas Nursing Jurisprudence Exam

There will be 50 items on the nursing jurisprudence examination (NJE). You need to correctly answer 75% of the questions to pass them. You will be given two (2) hours to complete the NJE. On the upper right-hand portion of the computer screen will be a digital clock and the question number for you to monitor the progress of the NJE. The NJE must be completed in one sitting. You are allowed to check the Board of Nursing (BON) website and other review materials throughout the exam duration for you to find the best answers to questions. You can open the NJE in another window, thereby leaving this window open to access reference materials on the BON website.

Once passed, the result will be posted and recorded to the Board of Nursing system, all 50 questions should be answered and a minimum of 38 questions should be answered correctly. A certificate will be available for printing at the end of the examination. After a passing result is recorded, Board Staff will be notified and the jurisprudence exam requirement will be posted as completed in your file. You need to keep the certificate for your records. (Do not mail the certificate to the BON)

A Failing Result will be posted and recorded to the BON system if 13 or more of the 50 questions are answered incorrectly, the exam is not completed in the allotted period of time, or the connection to the exam is closed, terminated, or lost. You may NOT reconnect to the test to return to the last question answered. However, retake the exam after 24 hours
Read each question carefully. There is only one correct answer for every question. You are not allowed to use the back button to check/change a previously answered question.

The Texas Board of Nursing (Board) offers a Nursing Jurisprudence Exam Prep Course to help you prepare to take the Texas Nursing Jurisprudence Exam or NJE for short. It provides an overview of nursing regulations along with clear instructions for how to locate the information and resources you will need to pass the NJE. You will be led through each of the five subject areas covered by the NJE: 1) Nursing Licensure and Regulation in Texas, 2) Nursing Practice, 3) Nursing Ethics, 4) Nursing Peer Review, and 5) Disciplinary Action. There is an NJE Practice Test at the end of the course.

Who Should Attend?: Anyone preparing to take the Texas Nursing Jurisprudence Exam (NJE). The NJE is a requirement for new graduates, out-of-state nurses, foreign-educated nurses seeking licensure in the State of Texas, and nurses who have been out of practice for an extended period of time and seek re-licensure.
